Moon Over Manifest

Sixth graders:
You have been reading the 2011 Newbery Award winning book, Moon Over Manifest, ,by Clare Vanderpool.  This book is filled with a long list of memorable characters.  Pick one character and tell how you are like that character, or what personal connection you feel to that character.  I can't wait to read your responses!

Like Mysteries?

Sue O says:
Whoever likes to read mysteries, you should get "The Missing" seiries.

Sue is right!

Margaret Peterson Haddix has written some great books.  The first book in "The Missing" series, Found,  starts with a plane that mysteriously appears at an airport.  Nobody knows where it came from and no one saw it arrive.  There is no pilot, and no crew.  The only passengers are 36 babies.....Thirteen years later, teenage adopted children start getting frightening messages saying they are among "the missing" and that someone is coming to get them......

Guess what girls?! I was almost right when I told you there was a sequel to 11 Birthdays and Finally 12.  The new book, 13 Gifts, will come  out on Sept. 1.

Here is a sneak peek at the cover.  What do you think?  Should I get it for the school library?
I put a link to the author's website on the right side of the screen.   Click on her name, Wendy Mass.

Summer Reading

The fifth grade students and Ms. Domann (with a little help from Ms. Rinke) have come up with a list of great books for summer reading.  The list is a long one so it has its own page.  Look on the right side of the screen for PAGES and click on Summer Reading List.

Happy Reading....and don't forget to sign up at the Lawrence Public Library for the summer reading program!!

Welcome!

The students at St. John Catholic School in Lawrence, Kansas will be using this blog to recommend good books to their friends and classmates.  Some day we hope to make video "book trailers" to post on the blog.

Ms. Rinke, the school librarian, will write about new books that she gets for the library.
